So this is a book a received from book sneeze. They give it to me for free and i read and post a review. It is a pretty sweet deal. So the book as you might guess is about slavery. Inquiring minds might wonder what kind. Well he gives you a great amount of details on roman slavery, which is what was around in the new testament writers day, and gives you a good understanding of what it meant to be a slave in those days. Many of us when we hear the word slavery we think about slavery in america during the 1700 and 1800s. He points out all these facts while keeping it interesting. The main subject matter though is people today as slave. I believe a good general thesis for the book is that you are either a slave to God or a slave to sin. The New Testament never really talks about freewill. However, the New Testament does constantly use slave language. Dr. MacArthur gives shows us our options quite clearly; you can either be a slave to sin or you can be a slave to God. If we follow the world and our passions we are letting our self's be ruled by sin. If we follow God then we are selling our selling ourselves to a new master who loves and treats his "slaves" as members of the family. At times the book can seem a little bit repetitive but it is a really good read that gives us a better understanding of our relationship to the Father.
